Global Talent visa

Residence for leaders or potential leaders in academia or research, arts and culture, or digital technology. Applicants either hold an eligible prestigious prize from the published list, or first obtain an endorsement from an approved body, then apply for the visa. Permission can be granted for up to five years at a time and is renewable; holders may work and settle without a job offer once endorsed. Indefinite leave to remain is available after three or five years depending on field and how the applicant qualifies, under the Immigration Rules Global Talent settlement path.

Indefinite Leave to Remain via a work route (Skilled Worker settlement)

The ordinary employment path to settlement. Immigration Rules Appendix Skilled Worker, SW 21.1: "The applicant must have spent a continuous period of 5 years in the UK." SW 21.2 lets that five years be made up of time on any combination of Skilled Worker, Global Talent, Innovator Founder, T2 Minister of Religion, International Sportsperson, Representative of an Overseas Business, Tier 1 (other than Graduate Entrepreneur) and Scale-up, so the clock is not tied to one visa. Settlement additionally requires continuous residence under Appendix Continuous Residence (SW 22.1), Knowledge of Life in the UK (SW 23.1), and a sponsor who is still licensed, still needs the applicant, and still pays at or above the SW 24.3 threshold. From 26 March 2027 an applicant must also show English at CEFR B2 in speaking and listening (SW 22A.1), raised from B1.
