A person with at least one parent who was a Ukrainian citizen at the moment of birth is a citizen automatically, wherever born (article 7). Article 8 separately grants a right to citizenship by territorial origin reaching a parent, grandparent, great-grandparent or sibling born or permanently resident in Ukraine or its historical territories.
Five years of continuous residence (article 9), plus recognition of the Constitution, exams in its basics and in the state language, and lawful means of subsistence. Since Law 4502-IX of 18 June 2025, multiple citizenship is recognised in listed cases and acquisition can proceed by declaration instead of renunciation for citizens of listed states.
