Citizenship at birth in Tuvalu

Constitution s.46(1) makes a person born in Tuvalu a citizen by birth automatically, whatever the parents' nationality or status, excepting only children of accredited envoys and of enemy aliens in occupied territory. The Citizenship Act 1979 contains no birth provision at all.

Naturalization after seven years residence

Adults may apply after about seven years legal residence, good character, knowledge of Tuvaluan laws and customs, and intention to reside permanently. Dual nationality from voluntary acts other than marriage is generally restricted. Grant is discretionary.
