Naturalization with ministerial and Cabinet approval

A foreigner may be naturalized as a Thai national with permission of the Minister of Interior and Cabinet approval after meeting the statutory conditions of the Nationality Act, which ordinarily include majority and capacity, good conduct, lawful occupation, knowledge of Thai sufficient for communication, and domicile in Thailand for not less than five consecutive years under a permanent-residence qualification, unless a shorter statutory path applies (for example certain spouses of Thai nationals). Naturalization remains highly discretionary.
