Citizenship through a Filipino parent or natural-born reacquisition

A person is a Filipino citizen when at least one parent is a Filipino citizen, subject to constitutional and statutory lineage rules. Natural-born Filipinos who lost Philippine citizenship by naturalization abroad may reacquire and retain dual citizenship under Republic Act No. 9225 by taking the oath of allegiance and meeting documentary requirements.

Naturalization by judicial petition or administrative RA 9139 process

Ordinary naturalization for foreign adults is available by judicial petition under Commonwealth Act No. 473 after continuous residence of not less than ten years (with shorter statutory periods for specified categories), good moral character, means of support, language and civics knowledge, and other qualifications and disqualifications. Separately, Republic Act No. 9139 provides an administrative naturalization path through the Special Committee on Naturalization for persons born in the Philippines who meet native-born residence and other statutory conditions.
