Spätaussiedler ethnic German resettlement

Recognition as a late ethnic German resettler (Spätaussiedler) under the Federal Expellees Act confers German nationality automatically upon admission — ethnic eligibility, managed admission, automatic citizenship. Mainly for post-Soviet ethnic German cohorts; documentation requirements are substantial.

EU Blue Card (Blaue Karte EU)

German residence title under Residence Act §18g for non-EU academics (or comparable qualifications) taking up qualified employment. §18g sets the salary floor at "mindestens 50 Prozent der jährlichen Beitragsbemessungsgrenze in der allgemeinen Rentenversicherung", reduced to 45.3% for the listed shortage occupations (ISCO-08 groups 132, 133, 134, 21, 221, 222, 225, 226, 23, 25) and for applicants whose degree was obtained in the past three years. Against the 2026 contribution ceiling of EUR 101,400 those percentages give gross annual floors of EUR 50,700 and EUR 45,934.20. Employment must be for at least six months. Settlement is then governed by §18c(2): a Niederlassungserlaubnis is granted after 27 months of §18g employment with basic German ("einfache Kenntnisse der deutschen Sprache"), and that period "verkürzt sich auf 21 Monate" where the holder has sufficient German ("ausreichende Kenntnisse"), in both cases with contributions to statutory pension insurance.
