Colombian naturalization after residence

Law 2332 generally requires five years of continuous domicile as a Resident Visa holder counted from Resident Visa issuance. The domicile floor falls to two years for a Colombian spouse or permanent partner, a Colombian child, a Spanish national, or where reciprocal treatment by the origin state is verified. Naturalization remains discretionary.

Migrant (M) visa — pensionado

Migrant-category visa under Resolución 5477/2022 art. 77 for recipients of a life pension from a state or private fund of at least three SMMLV per month, granted up to three years. No work permitted, but as an M visa it leads to the resident (R) visa after five years of continuous status (art. 90 as amended by Resolución 10434/2023).

Visitor (V) visa — rentista

Rentista is a VISITOR category under Resolución 5477/2022 art. 56: income from rents of at least ten SMMLV per month, granted for up to two years. It permits no work (“No permite trabajar”) and, like all V visas, accumulates nothing toward the resident (R) visa (art. 23).
