An adult can apply to naturalize as a BOTC connected to Cayman under the British Nationality Act after the statutory residence period; Caymanian status is a separate immigration status.
25-year renewable residence with the right to work in the invested business, for a person who invests and maintains at least CI$1,000,000 in a licensed, employment-generating Cayman business. Minimum presence 90 days per calendar year; audited financials at required intervals.
Certificate of Permanent Residence for Persons of Independent Means
Permanent residence for applicants who have already invested (fully paid) at least CI$2,000,000 in developed Cayman real estate at the time of application. Under the reform effective 1 May 2026, granted for an initial 10-year period with a year-9 application for an indefinite certificate โ only then may the holder pursue BOTC naturalisation and the Right to be Caymanian. May be varied to allow the right to work.
Residency Certificate for Persons of Independent Means (25-year, renewable)
Long-term residence without the right to work (now variable to grant employment rights โ 2026 forms re-brand it 'Residency and Employment Rights Certificate'): local investments of CI$1,000,000 including developed real estate, plus continuous annual income of CI$120,000 (Grand Cayman) / CI$75,000 (Sister Islands) OR CI$400,000 on deposit in a local bank. Minimum presence 30 days per calendar year.
Residency Certificate (Substantial Business Presence)
25-year renewable residence with the right to work in the relevant business, for a person owning at least 10% of an approved-category business or employed there in senior management. Business-ownership applicants must show commercial premises and at least four full-time legally resident employees. Minimum presence 90 days per calendar year.
Exchange normally requires residence in the destination and replaces the original licence. The official authority still decides validity, deadlines, classes, and any extra checks.
